Rangers

The B-Squad Rangers was a team of five (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink) which originally served as backups to A-Squad [1], but they soon became Earth's primary defense force [2]. They were later joined by the Shadow Ranger (below) [3]. The Omega Ranger (below) provided extended help for a time [4]; the Cat and Nova Rangers (below) each provided brief help as well [5,6].

Q&A

Were they actually called "SPD Rangers" in-show?

Yes, on a few occasions [1]. They also sometimes identified themselves as "Power Rangers S.P.D." [2]. Most commonly, however, the team was known as the "Power Rangers" or simply "Rangers" [3].

[2] ?, History
[3] Beginnings, et al.

Were any of the SPD Morphers named in-show?

...

Should "Uni-Force" be hyphenated?

It was written that way in the toy line.

How did the SPD Rangers initiate their morphs?

The Rangers held out their Morphers with a call of, "SPD emergency!" [1].
[1] ?

What happened when the Rangers morphed?

Bridge morphing as SPD Green (click above for more images)
Bridge morphing as SPD Green (click above for more images)
First let's address what appeared to happen in the stock morph sequences [1]:
  • The Morpher flipped open in close-up.
  • The Morpher projected an image of the Ranger suit in front of the officer with respectively-colored light; the image then began to dissolve (exception: Sky's Red Morpher showed no projection; click here for images).
  • The cadet/officer leapt; then, gliding back through a futuristic tunnel while clad in all-white, the cadet/officer was followed by the Ranger suit image, which took the form of respectively-colored light (exception: Kat did cartwheels rather than leap and backflip; Sky and Bridge didn't leap at all when morphing as Red Ranger; click here and here for images).
  • Suited-up but helmetless, the Ranger performed a backflip and landed in a crouch (exception: Kat's suit continued to glow orange a while before becoming its normal form; Sky's Red Ranger morph began with his body glowing with light which then turned into his suit).
  • His/her helmet then quickly attached in two pieces (back and front), the visor and mouthplate forming last (exception: Kat's helmet appeared from energy, though the visor and mouthplate still did form last; Sky's Red Ranger helmet formed from chin up, visor last; Bridge's Red Ranger helmet formed from top to bottom, visor last).
  • The Ranger then sometimes posed with a group or solo declaration.

Doggie's morph into the Shadow Ranger, however, was almost entirely different [1]:
  • His Morpher flipped open in close-up.
  • Doggie tore off his uniform, revealing a gleaming white body underneath.
  • He leapt down a passageway in the futuristic tunnel, his Ranger suit forming as he fell.
  • His suit solidified as he landed.
  • His helmet quickly attached in two pieces (top and bottom), the visor forming last.
  • He then posed with a call of, "Shadow Ranger!"
[1] Shadow, part 2, et al.

So how much of that "really" happened?

It's hard to say, but note the following:
  • The morph sequences didn't always match the Rangers' actual wardrobes and hairstyles [1].
  • In some cases, there didn't appear to be ample room for the flips and dives depicted in the morph sequences [2].
  • The Rangers sometimes "insta-morphed," wherein a simple colored gleam took the place of a full morph sequence (see "Morpher uses" table below). Note that during one insta-morph, the Rangers actually did perform backflips in-scene.

Wasn't there a second, powered-up Omega Ranger in a video game?

Omega Ranger (Hall of Legends protector)
Omega Ranger (Hall of Legends protector)
In the home console versions of the Power Rangers Super Legends video game, a second Omega Ranger acted as the protector of the Hall of Legends, "the repository of all Power Ranger knowledge"; it apparently existed outside of time. His suit appeared to be an armored variation on the regular Omega Ranger suit.

Who was he?

He only referred to himself as "the Omega Ranger." (For that matter, none of the Rangers was actually named in the game.) Some sources use the title "Future Omega Ranger" for this character, but this name apparently didn't appear in-game.

Was he the future version of Sam?

Unresolved. While the two Omegas did meet in-game, their interaction consisted mainly of humorous confusion between the two of them whenever someone addressed "Omega Ranger." (Of note, the Hall of Legends Omega had a somewhat more mature-sounding voice than S.P.D. Omega.)

Was that video game canon?

This wiki doesn't attempt to distinguish between canon and non-canon sources. The game's events weren't referenced in-show, however.

Should "R.I.C." have a period after each letter?

Periods generally aren't used in acronyms that are pronounced as words rather than individual letters. This wiki, however, does use the periods for "R.I.C." to match the toy line.

And "S.W.A.T.?"

To match graphics in-show.

Should "DeltaMax" be one word or two? Should "Max" be capitalized?

The toy line had it as one word, but the capitalization is unknown, as the name was printed entirely in uppercase. This wiki capitalizes "Max" to match similar RPM names.

Morpher uses

Notes regarding the tables below:
  • Sometimes instead of a morph sequence being shown, one or more Rangers would insta-morph while running after performing the usual preparations.
  • If an "(s)" designator is present, this means multiple morphs were shown in split-screen.

Morphs debut (Red = Jack, Blue = Sky, Green = Bridge, Yellow = Z, Pink = Syd).
