Q&A

Were they actually called "Lightspeed Rangers" in-show?

In a sense: Carter once called himself the "Red Lightspeed Ranger" [1]. Captain Mitchell also once called them "Lightspeed Power Rangers" [2]. Most commonly, however, the team was known as the "Power Rangers" or simply "Rangers" [3].

[2] Operation Lightspeed
[3] Lightspeed Teamwork, et al.

Is "Trans-Armor Cycle" supposed to be hyphenated?

That's how it appeared in the toy line.

How did the Lightspeed Rangers initiate their morphs?

The Rangers gestured while calling out, "Lightspeed Rescue!", and they then touched their Morphers [1]. Ryan called out, "Titanium power!", gestured, and touched his Morpher [2].

What happened when the Rangers morphed?

Chad morphing (click above for more images)
First let's address what appeared to happen in the stock morph sequences [1]:
  • The Morpher flipped open in close-up.
  • From the Morpher emerged a large shield shaped like his/her visor and colored like the torso on his/her Ranger suit (exception: the Titanium Morpher wasn't shown generating the shield, and its pattern seen from below was different).
  • The shield passed backward over the Ranger, melding the material onto the Ranger to form his/her suit; the remainder of the shield dissolved at this point (exception: Ryan's shield descended down over him; click here for images).
  • Electrical bolts finished off details of the suit (visor still open); this excluded Ryan, whose suit formed in its finished state.
  • The breathing apparatus slid up over his/her nose and mouth, and the visor slid shut (exception: Ryan's breathing apparatus was present to begin with).
[1] ?

So how much of that "really" happened?

It's hard to say, but note the following:
  • The morph sequences didn't always match the Rangers' actual wardrobes and hairstyles [1].
  • The Rangers sometimes "insta-morphed," wherein a full morph sequence was replaced by either a simple colored gleam or an in-scene shield-leap (see "Morpher uses" table below).
[1] ?

Should "Rescue Bird" be one word or two?

The toy line showed it as one word, but text in-show had it as two [1]. This wiki spells it as two words for the sake of legibility.

"Mega Battle?"

See the episode title [1].
[1] The Mighty Mega Battles

Was there an official spelling for "Unilaser?"

It didn't appear in print, nor did it appear in the toy line (?).

Should "V-Lancer" be hyphenated?

It was in the toy line.

What color were the Rescue Blasters' lasers?

...

What were the component items of the Rescue Bird?

There are two sources we can refer to:
  • The toy line gave names for each item and specified which item belonged to which Ranger.
  • The show gave minimal information about the items: only one name was given in dialog [1], while two other items weren't even used in-show. A visor display, however, did name all five items [2], but the names were original sentai names that didn't correspond to the dialog or toy line. (The display also indicated which segments of the Rescue Bird corresponded to each item, though the sentai names made it clear enough which bird part they formed anyway.)

So they shared the items, but wasn't each item assigned to a particular Ranger by default?

Barring the toy line which did specify ownership, the only evidence the show gave was prior to the Unilaser's debut [1]; interestingly, that sequence had Red and Yellow's items swapped from the toy line, while the rest were the same. (For trivia's sake, note that the items in this sequence were not combined with the Rangers' blaster grips as they were whenever the items were actually put to use.)

Morpher uses

Notes regarding the tables below:
  • To morph, the Lightspeed crew gestured and touched their Rescue Morphers with a simultaneous call of, "Lightspeed rescue!" (Exception: Ryan's call was, "Titanium power!")
  • Sometimes instead of a morph sequence being shown, one or more Rangers would insta-morph while running after performing the usual preparations.
  • If an "(s)" designator is present, this means multiple morphs were shown in split-screen.

Morphs debut (Pink = Dana, Yellow = Kelsey, Blue = Chad, Green = Joel, Red = Carter).
